ReviewBackyardigans: Operation Elephant Drop
(Street Date: July 13, 2010)

While my children may be moderately entertained by some videos, and thoroughly engulfed in whimsy, non-sense and belly-aching laughter  from others, this newest DVD from The Backyardigans doesn’t quite fall into either extreme category.  What it did do, however, is capture my children’s 100% attention — and my kids just absolutely fell in love with this DVD.

I can’t explain it, but sometimes kids just really enjoy things so much you can see it on their faces — their tiny little smiles, the glow of their face as they watch intently, and the general serenity that overcomes them.  This is one of those DVDs…  totally entertaining, engaging and calming at the same time.  The music is great, and the title episode is a particular favorite — because anything that involves helping animals is always a big hit with our family.

The Backyardigans: Operation Elephant Drop is a DVD my kids have already asked to see over and over again, and is one you may want to consider for your home collection.  The following contains what’s included on the DVD and a little about the episodes:

Elephant on the Run – Park Ranger Tasha has a very important job for the delivery agents Tyrone and Pablo.  They are to get an endangered elephant safely to the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and to avoid the bad guys.  Music genre: Alternative Rock

The Magic Skateboard – Tyrone really wants to be a great skateboarder.  He may not know all the tricks yet, but he’s goin to compete in the Show-Off Showdown.  Once he finds the magic skateboard, even his top competition takes notice.  Music Genre:  Forro

The Flipper! Uniqua, Tasha and Pablo are the Meteor Watch Squad.  But when meteor obsessed Pablo accidentally spills toxic space stuff all over himself, he becomes the super strong, super excitable Flipper! Music Genre:  Bo Diddley-Style Rock

Super Team Awesome! Tyrone is a tour guide for the world’s only lava geyser, Old Gushie.  When a loose boulder in the cavern threatens to cause a geothermal disaster, Tyrone calls for help.  Not one, but three superheroes come to save the day!  Music Genre:  American Country Rock.

This DVD is scheduled for release on July 13, 2010 for a Suggested Retail Price of $16.99 — but you can pre-order for release date delivery for a special price at Amazon today.
