Fad Diet Favorites — Slim Fast Jump Start Diet

Slim Fast Jump Start Diet

I used this diet for about a week, got bored and cheated because to me, liquid diets are painfully difficult.  I lost 3 pounds and gained it back. I do like the shakes, however, and still use the slim fast shakes and bars for on the go meal replacement, but not as a part of any particular diet.    The good thing about the Slim Fast products is that you can usually find them on sale at one store or another, and they are not too expensive.   If you want to try their diet plan, though, here’s the basics:

A day’s example of the Slimfast Jumpstart Diet Plan:

 Breakfast — 1 shake + 1 fruit
Snack — 1 fruit + gelatin
Lunch — 1 shake + 1 fruit + gelatin
Mid-Afternoon Snack — 1 veggie + gelatin
Dinner — 1 shake + 1 large salad + 3 veggies

Basically, you drink the shakes and put yourself through a liquid diet. Although packed with vitamins, I’d rather eat a bar of chocolate with the same calories and take my multivitamin. Being on a liquid diet for a long time isn’t healthy either, so like many other fad diets, this isn’t something I’d use to tackle the kind of weight loss I needed.  Only you can tell if it will work for you.  The bottom line is:  Calories in + Calories Out = Weight loss/gain.  Eat what you love in small portions and fat will be a lot easier to lose.

The original version of slimfast shakes and then the original snackbars were not so difficult to follow. I actually lost more than 100 lbs on it. Not bragging, I gained it all back with a bout of depression. What first led me to slimfast was a horrible throat infection. I couldn’t swallow. My dr. Told me to get slimfast and put it in the freezer. Drink them and nothing else but my meds until the infection cleared. I lost weight so I kept going. Once you are used to the awful taste, it’s not so bad. Next is shrinking the stomach, and then adjusting your routine and making yourself stick to it. That’s where I fell off the wagon. Couldn’t force myself to continue the pilates, or I would still be in a size 8.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I think it always helps to see that people have made it work for them. That’s how I drink them too… I have to stick them in the freezer first so they are slightly slushy — shake and serve! By the way, even if you gain weight back because of depression or any other reason, don’t get down on yourself. Just try and eat healthy the best you can and enjoy your life. Every day is a gift.
