Fad Diet Favorites — The Grapefruit Diet
The Grapefruit Diet Basics (aka: a version of the “Mayo Diet”) include a bold claim about the amount of weight you can lose quickly. The Big Promise: “Like no other diet before! You can lose 52 pounds in 2 1/2 months.” Short of being locked in a cell and given nothing but bread and water, I don’t see how that can happen. Still, people swear it works. The Mayo Clinic long ago developed a similar diet and it has been passed around for about 30 years now — before the internet.
